Not all Ladder seasons have new Runewords. However, these cannot be created outside the Ladder season or by a non-Ladder character, even if a Ladder season is currently active.

After the Ladder season has ended, these items can be moved to regular play. Ladder-Only Runewords can only be created by Ladder characters during that Ladder season. These will be detailed above the tables of Runewords for this gear type. Some Weapons Runewords only apply to specific types. You can insert Runewords into the following types of non-magic gear: However, combining specific Runes in a particular order in the correct base item creates a Runeword, which packs on a number of other features, fundamentally changing the quality of the gear item. Runes all have great extra properties that you can add to socketed gear. There's no going back once you've put the Runes in, there's no removing them without destroying all your Runes. Runes must be inserted into the correct type of gear, in the correct order, or else it will not create a Runeword and give bonuses. Runewords must be created and inserted carefully into armor and the correct type of weapons. They are not usable for Classic players who choose not to use the expansion.
